If you wish to spend your holidays at an exotic destination, where you can enjoy the sun and long hours of complete relaxation, Bora Bora is the place you’re looking for. This picturesque island belongs to the Leeward group of islands in the western part of the Society Islands of French Polynesia. Bora Bora boasts amazing beaches and nature beauties which you simply have to visit. In order to help you make up your mind, we have singled out several must-sees in Bora Bora.
1. Matira Beach
The Matira Beach is the most popular public beach in Bora Bora. Here, you can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere lying in the sun or in the natural shade of palm trees. If you are eager for some action while staying here, we heartily recommend that you try out snorkelling. The Matira Beach is also perfect for families with small children, since the water is warm and shallow. On top of that, the seafloor is flat and sandy, without corals, so you can freely walk while enjoying yourself.

2. Mount Otemanu
Mount Otemanu is the highest point on Bora Bora. It forms, together with Mount Pahia, the remnants of an extinct volcano. The best way to explore this wonderful place is by hiking, but be aware that it is impossible to climb to the summit since the volcanic rock is too fragile. However, another option is to embark on a “4×4” tour, since the jungle is pretty thick here, so hiking would only be appealing to true adventurers and nature enthusiasts. Once the adventure is over, our advice for you is to find a place to relax and regain your strength, and our suggestion is the amazing InterContinental Bora Bora Resort and Thalasso Spa, located on an islet facing the Mount Otemanu.

3. Bora Bora Lagoonarium
The Bora Bora Lagoonarium is a natural aquarium in which you can see diverse sea life. It’s located on a small island near the St. Regis Resort. The best thing is that you can also snorkel in the lagoonarium and experience a close encounter with various species in their natural habitat. You will get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to swim with sharks, turtles and stingrays. And, if you have children, this is the perfect place for them to discover the ocean’s beauties, since you will hardly ever find a more charming place than this one.

4. Tupitipiti Point
One of the most famous diving sites in Bora Bora is Tupitipiti Point, located in the southern part of the Island. It is famous for its purple corals and diverse wildlife. You can often encounter sharks, stingrays and parrotfish. This dive site also stands out among all others, since this is the only place you can see a very unusual creature – the hammerhead shark. Due to its strong currents and steep slopes it´s more suitable for experienced divers. However, even if you’re not a professional diver, you can always hire an experienced instructor. The beauty of this place makes it very romantic, so it’s not a surprise that many newlyweds choose this location for their honeymoon.

5. Bora Bora Pearl Company
Another place worth visiting is the Farm at the Bora Bora Pearl Company. Here, you will have the opportunity to discover the mysteries of the Tahitian cultured pearl. The Farm allows you to witness all the stages of pearl development. On top of that, there is a workshop as well, where you can get a special piece of jewellery created just for you while you’re watching. You can choose the design and the precious material, so, in the end, you will get a unique piece of jewellery that reflects your personality.

As you can see, Bora Bora is a true piece of paradise, where you can choose among different activities including snorkelling, swimming, diving or just relaxing and doing nothing. No matter what you choose, we guarantee that you will have the time of your life.
It was always my mother’s dream to go to Polinesia. Since I was a child I have always seen documentaries about those island. It became a collective dream in our family :D.My parents finally went to Cook Islands and said they are so worth! lovely post
Oh Midori, thank you so much for your comment. I hope you will get there soon, too. <3
I am so jealous of Marie having gone here. Even the view from the plane looks amazing. This is where I am going to move to when I win the lottery
Lol! That’s a perfect idea, Jenni! Thanks!
Great round up of things to do. On a cold wet day in the UK, this is the type of post I love to read to cheer me up! Dream destination for sure.
Dream destination, indeed. Thank you Daisy.
What a stunning place. I love the look of all those huts/hotel rooms in the water! What a glorious view from your front porch. No doubt it has to be one of the most romantic spots – you can just tell from the photos. This post has me sighing and wishing I were there.
Crazy tibit of information about those parrot fish you can encounter when you scuba dive (not me – I’m terrified of just the word shark!!!) is that they eat coral and poop out sand. The beaches of the big island of Hawaii are made mainly of this parrot fish poop. Perhaps that is true of the beaches here, too? Either way….tidbit it will be hard to forget now. LOL!
Interesting post and beautiful photos! I hope to read more about practicalities regarding travelling to Bora Bora, eg. how much to budget, how many days to spend, how the locals are like and so on 🙂
Terrific! A piece of paradise at it seems… About the sharks I am not that sure to be honest 😉
Do you know or have an idea what such pearls from Bora Bora cost?
Bora Bora looks like a dream destination – it’s torture seeing these photos while sitting at home in way below zero temperatures….lol! I think it’s time I start snorkeling – it seems I’m missing a lot of what’s going on under water.
Bora Bora is on my bucket list since ever, but unfortunately I have never had the opportunity to visit Polynesia. Hope one day, so thanks for all the great advices!
Wow Bora Bora looks amazing – the whole place looks like Paradise and the colour of that water is stunning! Id love to visit somewhere tropical like this – very jealous!
I’ve always been curious about Bora Bora and never actually read a post on it before! I’d love to visit French Polynesia… A tropical paradise where I also understand the language. That’s perfect! I’d love to visit the lagoonarium as I’m very interested in life under water 🙂
Scuba diving is one of my biggest passions. The main reason I love diving is the adventure, because you never know what you will found below the water surface. In the past years I’ve collected a series of underwater photos. It’s cool that I can also search new dive spots or even add my own.
