After visiting Berlin, Germany twice, I finally found a hotel on my third trip there that encompasses the very essence of Berlin. Built on a bedrock of art, individualism, diversity, and history, Berlin allows you to be who or what you want to be at all hours of the day and night. Tucked away in the heart of Berlin, The Weinmeister Berlin-Mitte is a trendy, adults-only hotel that encourages you to enjoy Berlin just the way you like. Want to have breakfast in your pajamas? Head downstairs to the lobby in the morning for some coffee and croissants. Want to relax at the hotel while having a beer? The lobby bar is open all day. Want to go for a midnight soak in the rooftop jacuzzi? You can do that. While you would typically expect to find a hotel like this in the trendier neighborhoods of Friedrichshain or Kreuzberg, The Weinmeister is located in the heart of Berlin, right next to Alexanderplatz, which is the perfect location for first-time visitors who want to stay within walking distance of the major sites and train lines in the city. If you are looking to experience the essence of Berlin in a centrally located area, then you will undoubtedly find The Weinmeister Berlin-Mitte to be the best place to stay in Berlin.

Love At First Sight

As soon as my fiance and I walked into The Weinmeister, we were in love. The reception area where we checked in was connected to the bar, where we saw a few people having beers and chatting with the friendly bartender when we arrived in the evening. We noticed a few others hanging out in the lobby as well, chatting with their friends and the hotel staff alike as if they were all friends. The ambiance, while cool and trendy, also made me feel immediately at ease instead of self-conscious.

The rest of the lobby was decorated with beautifully designed furniture and sectioned off areas for small groups to have some privacy. While fully functional, the lobby also looked like a work of art, with high top couches, beautiful wooden tables, and unsymmetrical walls scattered throughout. The floor-to-ceiling windows let in plenty of light during the day, and the floor lights created the perfect evening mood for late night hangouts.

Uniquely Designed Rooms

We have never seen rooms like the ones at The Weinmeister. The bed was set up in the middle of the room, with built in hangers and storage on the back side of the bed. Depending on the size of the room, the back side of the bed may also contain a bath tub for you to have a soak and turn down after a long day or night out on the town. I loved that each room was decorated differently, with different colored walls, different pieces of artwork, and sometimes even beautifully made wall and ceiling art. I never bored of admiring the artwork in our room, and it reminded me of Berlin’s East Side Gallery, which is one of my favorite spots in Berlin.

The many different light switches on the sides of the bed allowed us to set the lighting as brightly or as dimly as we were in the mood for, and the built in power outlets made charging our phones at night extremely convenient.

I’ve stayed at many hotels that provide bathrobes and slippers for guests, but I have never been provided with a flip-flop style slipper that was made of such plush material as was given to us at The Weinmeister. Maybe it was because our stay at The Weinmeister was at the end of our 10-day, multi-country trip and my feet were starting to get chafed and blistered from walking 10+ miles per day, but these slippers felt like clouds on my feet and were the next best thing to getting a foot massage and spa treatment.

Despite the compact style of the room, we still felt that there was more than enough space for the two of us. The bathroom felt spacious, and I liked that there was a separate room for the toilet, so the toilet was free even when the other person was using the bathroom to shower or get ready in the morning. The entire room felt minimalistic, yet well adorned with all the right details to make the room feel trendy and inviting.

Rooftop Jacuzzi and Bar

As if The Weinmeister didn’t already have enough unique features, one final (and major) unique feature was the rooftop jacuzzi and bar. Surrounding the jacuzzi are sunbeds, perfect for a hot summer’s day. Even in chillier months, however, the hot tub is still a great idea after walking around the city for an entire day or going out with your friends at night. Whether you’re looking to socialize and make some new friends over drinks, or relax quietly by yourself, the hot tub is the place to be. The rooftop is open daily from 4pm until the last person leaves – a common theme throughout bars and clubs in Berlin. The Weinmeister dubs the rooftop “to #chillfinity and beyond,” and I can’t think of a more fitting motto.

Breakfast

The Weinmeister offers two options for breakfast: a French breakfast (coffee + croissant) for 4.50 € in the hotel lobby, and a full hot breakfast at Einstein Kaffee next door for 16.00 €. While we always appreciate hotels that serve guests free breakfast, we hardly even noticed the lack of a free breakfast because of the convenient and affordable options provided to us at the hotel. Part of the convenience for us was that breakfast was available for six hours (from 7:00am to 1:00pm Monday thru Friday, and 8:00am to 2:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays), so we never felt like we had to rush or adjust our schedule around the hotel’s breakfast hours.

If you’re looking for a place to stay in Berlin and want something that encompasses the very essence of all things cool and hip in Berlin, look no further than The Weinmeister Berlin-Mitte. Being able to have a drink without worrying about young children running around tripping over it or having to watch our language in case we might offend the young ones made us feel like we were on an adults-only vacation where we could fully be ourselves. Not only is The Weinmeister the best hotel in Berlin, it is also the perfect place for adults and parents who want a weekend away for themselves in one of the trendiest and coolest hotels in Berlin Mitte.
