Common Spaces and Staff

When I arrived at Jaybird’s Inn, I was immediately greeted at the door by a staff member. She explained that the front doors are locked at night, but she immediately noticed me when I pulled up and rushed over to open the door for me. The check-in process was quick and easy, and despite my very late arrival, the front desk staff were all very pleasant and happy to help me get acquainted with the property and settled in.

Unlike many hotel lobbies that feel a bit rigid and cold, the lobby at Jaybird’s Inn is warm and inviting. Directly across from the front door is a cozy couch facing a large television screen. To the right is a dining area, where a complimentary breakfast is served every morning, and to the left is the check-in desk. There are also free snacks and water available to guests in the lobby, so you can easily spend hours relaxing there without worrying about forgetting to bring a snack or water bottle.

Rooms

I had the pleasure of staying in a King room at Jaybird’s Inn, which was more than enough space for one person. The room included a king size bed and a sofa bed, which I simply used as a sofa since I had no need for an extra bed. I was surprised to find how modern the interior looked after seeing the historic outside facade. The bright colors inside were a nice added touch that made the room feel cozy and inviting.

The bed was very comfortable, and I had many good nights’ sleep there. In addition to the bed and sofa, the room also came well equipped with a large desk, modern television, and coffee station. The hardwood floors made the room look even more modern and was a much more practical design than carpeting as the room led directly outside.

Similar to the rest of the room, the bathroom was spacious and included a separate toilet/shower area from the sink and vanity. I am always a fan of this design as it allows more guests to access the sink and get ready in the mornings and evenings even when the shower or toilet is being occupied. Jaybird’s Inn also provides conditioner in addition to shampoo, which is another minor detail that makes a big difference in my book.

Since the rooms all face directly outside, you may experience some noise issues if you have the unfortunate opportunity of staying next to loud or uncourteous neighbors. Luckily I did not experience any issues with this, as I spent my days outside exploring St. Augustine and am a very deep sleeper at night. You may also wish to request a first floor room if you are handicapped or unable to climb stairs, as there is no elevator available to reach the second floor.

If the weather is nice (which it almost always is) and you’re having a slow, relaxed vacation in St. Augustine, you can enjoy the patio furniture outside your room. I was impressed by how well kept the outdoor furniture was and could definitely see myself returning to St. Augustine on a slower vacation and spending more time relaxing outside my room with a cold beer.

On-Site Dining

There are two on-site dining options available at Jaybird’s Inn. The first is a complimentary breakfast that is served in the lobby every morning. Although I did not have the opportunity to have breakfast here, I did walk by every morning, and the dining area was always flowing with people. You also have the option of having a paid breakfast at Jaybird’s Restaurant, which I’ll discuss more below.

Jaybird’s Restaurant is a restaurant located next to the inn that is open daily for breakfast and lunch. I had the pleasure of having lunch here during my stay, and the food was delicious and well priced. Even though we showed up with a larger party of 8, the wait staff were able to take our orders and get our food out to us quickly. The restaurant has a large inside space and an outdoor patio as well, so seating is never an issue. My only complaint is that the restaurant isn’t open for dinner as well since I would have loved to have more opportunities to dine here.

Amenities

St. Augustine is full of fun activities, and Jaybird’s Inn not only helps you organize a lot of those activities but also provides free bikes to make touring the city even easier. You can even pre-book your tours with Jaybird’s Inn, and they’ll have your tickets waiting for you when you check in. In addition to organizing tours and visits to major attractions, Jaybird’s Inn also provides golf and water sports packages for kayaking, paddle boarding, and even surfing at one of the many nearby beaches.

If you’d rather stay on site, there is a game room and pool area to keep you entertained for hours! Jaybird’s Inn isn’t just a place to sleep at night – it’s a home away from home where you can relax and have fun all day.

Location

Jaybird’s Inn is located 1.5 miles north of the Old City Gates, so you can easily take a nice walk or bike ride to the historic city center. There is also a 24-hour CVS Pharmacy and Walgreen’s located directly across the street from the inn, which makes getting late night snacks or forgotten necessities a breeze. I also found the area to be extremely safe, and I did not feel uncomfortable or unsafe walking from the historic part of town back to Jaybird’s Inn alone at night.
